This guide is designed as a starting point for your research in the field of sociology. It covers some key resources within the library, as well as some outside of Fresno State. Here you'll find some search tips for finding scholarly sources, citation help, librarian book recommendations, and some resources for finding internships and making connections outside of school. It's by no means comprehensive, but it's a great place to start.

What is Sociology?

From the American Sociological Association: 
"Sociology is the study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. Sociologists investigate the structure of groups, organizations, and societies and how people interact within these contexts. Since all human behavior is social, the subject matter of sociology ranges from the intimate family to the hostile mob; from organized crime to religious traditions; from the divisions of race, gender and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture. The Fresno State campus sits in the midst of the San Joaquin Valley, a valley rich in the traditions and representation of Native American peoples and cultures. We are grateful to be in the traditional homelands of the Yokuts and Mono peoples, whose diverse tribal communities share stewardship over this land.
