Newspapers

National and State News
ProQuest Newsstream includes several major "papers of record" for the United States (such as The New York Times and The Washington Post) and California (The Los Angeles Times and older editions of the San Francisco Chronicle).  For the most recent editions of The San Francisco Chronicle, use America's News: California.  This also has many local California papers.

America's News contains current news content from local, regional, and national sources. It includes newspapers, blogs, journals, newswires, broadcast transcripts, and videos. New content added daily from more than 3,000 full-text news sources. NOTE: America's News includes the Fresno Bee, and other California newspapers. While these can be searched separately, America's News offers a single platform to search across both collections simultaneously.

• Use * for alternate word endings

          e.g.,  genetic* retrieves genetic, genetics, genetically, etc

 • Use "   " to search for a phrase

          e.g., "climate change" and agricultur*

Local News

♦ Newspapers contain articles on current and local events and issues, as well as on topics of current interest.
♦ The coverage is often brief and usually at a fairly general level of detail.
♦ Newspapers also include editorial and opinion articles where authors argue their stance on an issue.
♦ Newspaper articles are usually written by reporters for a general audience.
♦ Sources are rarely cited and can be difficult to track down.
♦ When using news articles for research, they can be used along with more authoritative sources such as scholarly books and articles, reports, and other research-based resources from government agencies and research organizations.
