Tips and Tricks for Graduate Students

Getting Started

The Fresno State Library has many resources available to support you during your graduate studies.  We are more than just books.  We have places to study, technology to lend, workshops to help with your research, plus more.  Use this guide to learn the basics on Fresno State Library resources and services.

Subject Librarians

Who is my subject librarian and how can I contact them?

Do you need more in-depth help in your subject area/major? Or do you need research guidance for a class in another area?

Every department at Fresno State has a Subject Librarian that can help you with your research. Subject Librarians are specialists in their subject areas and can provide you with in-depth assistance. Find your Subject Librarian and email them to request an appointment.

If you're not sure who to ask, you can book an appointment with whichever librarian is available. Choose in-person or online, and find a time that works for you!

You can also explore the Research Guides created by Fresno State librarians.

Study Spaces

Where can I find a quiet place to study in the Library?

The Library has designated quiet study areas on the first and second floors of the South wing. The Table Mountain Rancheria Reading Room (on the third floor of the North wing) is also a quiet study area when it is not being used for events. See Quiet Study Areas.

If you are encountering excessive noise in a quiet study area, you can report the problem to the Public Safety Assistants (PSAs) on the first floor of the library either in person or by calling them at 559.278.2551.
