FInd Data Profiles for Census Tracts

Use the Chrome browser to access data.census.gov: there are issues with the display in Firefox and Safari.
 

Step 1  Go to data.census.gov, type profile in the search box, then click on Advanced Search

Step 2 
  Select Geographies

in the Browse Filters column, select Geography
in the Geography, select Tract
in the Within (State), select your state
in the Within (County), select All counties, or your county
in the selected County column, select All Census Tracts or one or more individual tracts
click the green Search icon


 

Step 3  Click on the View All Tables icon (on the lower right)

Step 4 
Click in the left column to select different Data Profile tables.

           Hover your cursor over a data cell to scroll up/down and side-to-side in the table

Step 5  Hide/Show data category rows:

             click  >  to show the lower data levels
             click  v  to hide the lower data levels

Three Ways to Find Tract Numbers

I.    If your tract is in Fresno City, you can use this map to identify tract numbers

II.   Search for an address to find a tract number via the Census Geocoder

         It isn't pretty, but scroll down in the results and near the end you can find your tract number:
         census tract number via geocoder


III.  Find your tract number using data.census.gov Maps

Step 1   Type your place name dp (for data profile) and click  Search
              Place is the city/town or county, the next larger geographic unit in which
              your tract resides. If multiple places have the same name, add the state.

Step 2  Click on MAPS in the upper left menu

Step 3   Click to open the Geographies selection box,
              scroll down the list and select Census Tract

step 3b scroll down and select Census Tract
 

Step 4   Pan and zoom in to your location. Zoom in to see major streets.
             Click on the Select icon in the upper left, then click the map on your location.
             Click Select on the popup box to select the tract.
             You can continue to select multiple tracts in the same way.
             Click the Select icon to toggle back to pan on the map.

Step 5   Click TABLES in the upper left menu to return to the table results view
             and see the Data Profile tables for the selected tract(s).

Data Profiles contain commonly needed data from the American Community Survey (ACS) for a variety of social, economic, housing, and demographic characteristics.
These are the main headings of data in each of the four Data Profile tables (DP02 - DP05)

ACS Data Profile Tables

Data Profiles have the most frequently requested social, economic, housing, and demographic data. Each of these four subject areas is a separate data profile. The Data Profiles summarize the data for a single geographic area, both numbers and percent, to cover the most basic data on all topics.
