Nisei Mary C. Baker Memorial Scholarship

Established by Nisei and other friends of Fresno State’s Dean of Women (1927-1949) in memory of her unselfish dedication to the service of her fellow men.  She openly voiced her support for Japanese Americans when public sentiment turned against them.  Scholarships are awarded to deserving students based on financial need, educational promise, and pursuing a major in the fields of Education, Social Work, or the Humanities.

Hubert Phillips Scholarship

Endowed by friends and former students of Dr. Hubert Phillips, who taught Social Science at Fresno State from 1924-1956 and was a vocal supporter of Japanese Americans during World War II.  This scholarship is awarded annually to students who have a broad background of English, history, sociology or related disciplines, and have definitely decided upon a life work which has some social impact, such as teaching, journalism, social work, etc.
