History of Japanese American collection:

The Japanese American book collection in Special Collections comes from two sources: the Fred Hirasuna family and the estate of Violet Kazue de Cristoforo. All of the books are about Japanese Americans and were personally collected by Fred Hirasuna and Violet Kazue de Cristoforo, both of whom were incarcerated for being Japanese American in the internment camps/detention centers during World War II.
